The German Shepherd
Dog Club of Houston has worked diligently to "armor" K-9 Officers
throughout the Houston/Galveston area. Members of the club, lead
by Vest Project Chair, Vickie Lewis have garnered support for this
VERY worthwhile cause.
In
June of 2000, the GSDC of Houston chose to head up a fund raising
effort to provide bulletproof vests to the K-9 dogs of the Houston
metro area. Since that time, we have been successful in raising
over $13,000. With these generous funds donated by individuals and
companies of Houston, we have had the pleasure of presenting 30
Ballistic Level II vests to these very deserving dogs. We are extremely
proud of this fund raising effort. We are so grateful to everyone
who has donated to this very worthy cause. Without the contributions
from the caring people of Houston, this would not be possible. We
would especially like to thank our very special friends, John &
Elaine Pershern who have donated 7 vests to date. John & Elaine
have been more than happy to contribute each and every time we have
asked them. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts. The following
K-9 Units have received vests: Houston K-9 Unit, 18 vests Pasadena
K-9 Unit, 5 vests Dickinson K-9 Unit, 1 vest Texas City K-9 Unit,
1 vest Seabrook K-9 Unit, 1 vest South Houston K-9 Unit, 1 vest
Polk County Sheriff's Dept, 2 vests Beaumont K-9 Unit, 1 vest. If
you would like information or would like to make a tax deductible
contribution to the vest fund, please contact us.
